2002-11-05 - 4:14 p.m. Last week I had a lot of conference calls, so doodling became priority #1. I think I'm a pretty good doodler. Definitely not great, especially not technically. But through my doodling you can definitely sense my love for the game, the art, the life. I think it's a combination of my dad's artistic talent and my mom's penchant for straight-up doodling. She'd be on the phone in some unimaginably looong conversation with a friend (30 minutes even! Can you imagine?), and after she finally left the kitchen table I'd find a notepad covered in ink: usually her name with concentric outlines expanding toward the edges of the paper, with some cubes thrown in for good measure. Me, I definitely go the geometric route. I'm not gonna be a breakthrough on the Muslim art scene (such as it is) any time soon, but I love a expertly rendered (or artfully jagged) 3D shape. Also, when leaving voice mail messages, I tend to write my name down as I say, "Hi, this is Trevor." "Trevor," I note on my Post-It. But I also have a flair for the figurative. My strongest niche would have to be white dudes. I draw hilarious ones, really. My last major series was "Big-Headed Boy on Old-School Skateboard, 1-5." Man I wish I didn't throw that sheet of paper out. previous next
