Wilco was last night and I have to say, it was pretty sweet. The crowd was a little weird. I guess there was the expected collection of the indeterminately frat, the too old to be hip, the bald (right here), the music geek, and the ugly.. But I guess I thought, I dunno, there'd be some more hipsters there considering the fact that they're supposed to like good music. Maybe the $25 door priced them out? Maybe Electroclash fest is still going on?

But a fall fashion show it was not. The Roseland was full to the rafters, and no fewer than four scalpers tried to buy extra tickets from me in the space of a quarter-block. Wilco rocked. Yes they did. They played all the jams off YHF except the two I'm not crazy about. A couple old tunes that, I admit, I didn't know. (Do I have AM, Summerteeth, Mermaid Avenue II? No. Have I heard them? Yeah, once or twice. Good stuff. It's all on the long list.) But they rocked 'em all. Best show I've ever seen that featured a laptop on stage. Seeing one of those things being wired up after the opening band carries its gear offstage usually signifies utter crap to come. But Wilco's able to walk that line like no one else I've seen. Sweet. Tweedy makes it all look so easy and seems like a nice guy, too. I hope he's not just another Rivers.
