2002-10-14 - 10:37 a.m. Rain went away. Thursday night to Sunday morning, it was nonstop. Hurricane season finally ends that drought we never stopped hearing about earlier this year. The heavens never really sent a downpour. It was just a steady, annoying trickle. On smoke breaks, it sent mist in the rain's place. The park was almost deserted during the rain on Saturday evening. Next time it rains like that, remind me to grab my slicks. A bunch of Indian guys had the right idea, playing an all-across-the-map game of soccer. I sure as hell remember playing in that kind of weather. That pond by the nethermead needed about an inch more before it flooded. I wonder if it got it. Ducks came at us like hungry beggars. I'm sure they're used to a lot more attention from humans than they'd been getting. I like owning the park, at least temporarily. Later that night was a party at that loft on Driggs and then at both of those art-student buildings on McKibbins, right off Bushwick. At the latter location some girl was outside collecting a dollar admission from everyone. That's just an insult. If you want to charge me, at least ask for $5. None of the parties were all that fun. Was it that everyone's spirits were dampened? Ugh. At least I got to see Lisa, Joel, and Stevie and finally meet the new Queensmate Josh. Muzak report: Iron and Wine sounds pretty durn good. If you think you'd dig Americana alt-country type stuff with hushed Belle and Sebastian melodies, this is the disc to buy. New Bright Eyes, hmm, I'm gonna have to defer until I'm in a better mood to give Mr. Oberst's voice a chance. Hasn't happened yet. previous next
