You know Henry Darger, right? Let me find a link for y'all...ok, here's a bunch. Well, I saw a lot of his stuff at PS1 several months ago, and I got to like the stuff. Then I started hating myself. All those naked little girls, many with penises...ugh. OK, so it's clear the man was, to say the absolute least, troubled. But it's a pretty amazing body of work. Most of the paintings are double-sided and contain hundreds of characters.

Well, this inspired me to do a little outsider art of my own, inside my room. I'm sick of trying to get all my photos to stick to the wall with that damn gummy stuff that doesn't actually work that well, so I'm going to do a mural. That's right. It's going to have a lot of stuff going on, much like a Richard Scarry book or a Darger painting or a Tolstoy novel. I figure the more that's happening, the more it distracts viewers from my crude style. So that's my project. I need to get a long straightedge so I can draw lines from the vanishing points. I'm all about realistic perspective, but I'm sure I'll bend the rules. Right now I'm just experimenting with pencil sketches on a small patch of wall to get a feel for the look I'm going for. But I'm happy with what I've done so far: a couple people beating a guy up, dudes waiting for a bus, a building called Janowicz plumbing supply. Next I need to buy paints and such. We shall see. I figure the more graphite that sullies my white walls, the more inspired I'll be to actually complete the project with some color.
